ABOUT CHIEF MAYER

Chief Norm Mayer has been the St. Matthews Police Chief for 22 years.  He previously served the Louisville Police Department for 27 years where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.  Norm Mayer has been responsible for upgrading the St. Matthews Police Department to an accredited agency.  The department now boasts a full time investigation section as well as a full time forensic unit.  Additionally, a Special Response Team has been developed and trained to handle large-scale emergencies that might arise in the city.  Chief Mayer was the one of the first chiefs in the state to support a full-time school resource officer.  The department is heavily involved with the local schools in both education and safety matters.  Officers are now equipped with many new technologies to make their job both safer and more productive.  Chief Mayer continues to look for ways to improve and develop the department.
